Angvall: a voice for Lester Prairie in Dist. 18A

From: Linda Mensing, Lester Prairie

In the past several weeks, I have come in contact with many local residents at neighborhood activities, community events such as Lester Prairie garage sales, and also church events in Lester Prairie. While discussing the upcoming elections and the political candidates with local residents, I’ve found that many of us have many of the same feelings regarding these candidates.

Namely that election ads are everywhere. Many of us would rather see it all end so that we can get back to “life as usual.” But the fact is, we all need to start paying attention to the candidates, especially ones running in our local races. Our country, our state, and our cities need us to become involved, to pay attention to the issues and the candidates, and to make informed decisions as to who will be elected to run our government.

We may not have been involved in government and the political process since classes in high school. Many of us have not kept up with the different candidates and what they stand for.  But, regardless of your involvement or political party, take time to become an informed voter.

When you are looking at candidates, take a minute to look at the qualifications of Eric Angvall, who is running for state representative of District 18A. Yes, we may all know Eric from his many years as mayor of Lester Prairie, or as the owner of Angvall Hardware.  We may have even had our differences of opinion about things that he has supported in the past.

But Angvall does have a lot of experience in city government. He knows first-hand what cities need and are not getting. He is an active member of our community. You see him in school, at church, at city functions, at the county fair . . . he knows what is going on and he’s so concerned that he’s decided to do something about it.

By running for state representative of District 18A, he is determined to represent the people of the district by getting out and listening to what those people want. He promises to vote, not according to party lines, but according to what his constituents feel is best for the residents of our district.

Wouldn’t it be great to have a state representative who is available locally for us to personally talk to? We can finally have a real voice in our government.

Do your homework. Take a look at Angvall’s impressive qualifications listed on his web site, and think about it. We have a chance to support someone whom we all personally know, who has such extensive and broad experience, one who will truly represent the people he serves. Why not support Eric Angvall in his effort to make a difference?
